AMU FEE HIKE 2025 up to 62% – A blow to poor and Minority Students

The recent fee hike at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has left many students and their families worried about the future of education for the poor and minority communities. The administration has increased fees by up to 62%, and for thousands of students, this sudden jump is more than they can afford.

For over a century, AMU has stood as a beacon of hope for those from backward sections, rural areas, and economically weaker families. The university was the vision of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, who dreamed of an inclusive institute where even the poorest could get quality education. His mission was simple: no student should be denied education just because they couldn’t pay high fees.

One of the unique things about AMU has been its affordable fee structure. For example, the dining hall charges just ₹1400 per month, allowing even those struggling financially to get proper meals. This low-cost system has made it possible for children of farmers, daily wage earners, and families from rural backgrounds to study in one of India’s top institutions.

But with the steep fee hike, this vision is now under threat. Current students are worried, and future students may not even get the chance to apply. Many will be forced to give up their dreams simply because they can’t afford the new rates.

In response, students—especially those from minority and poor backgrounds—have started protesting at Bab-E-Syed, urging the administration to reconsider. They believe the fee hike goes against the very foundation on which AMU was built.

Sir Syed Ahmed Khan’s dream was of an inclusive education system that uplifts society. If the fee hike stays, that dream may slip away for many.
